A practical way to convert FPV pack specs into Wh, count mixed packs and pack them for airline travel.

FPV difference: you may carry many small packs with different cell counts. That makes a mixed battery manifest more useful than checking one generic “drone battery.”

Calculate Wh from the label

Use Wh = mAh × nominal voltage ÷ 1000. For a 6S 1000 mAh LiPo using 22.2 V nominal voltage, the result is 22.2 Wh.

Cell-count shortcut

Traditional LiPo packs are often described as 4S, 6S and so on. Use the nominal voltage printed by the manufacturer when possible. If only cell count is available, confirm the chemistry and nominal per-cell voltage instead of assuming blindly.

Count every spare, not only the biggest pack

The live checker lets you add extra battery types. This matters because airline quantity limits can apply across the total number of spare batteries, even when each individual pack is far below 100 Wh.

Pack for inspection

  • Protect every exposed terminal against short circuit.
  • Keep spare packs in cabin baggage.
  • Do not travel with swollen, damaged or recalled packs.
  • Keep labels/specifications readable. For custom packs, a calculated Wh number may help explain the rating but does not replace an airline's documentation requirement.
